Professional Booklet Printing in Northern Ireland

A printed booklet does things that a PDF cannot. It gets left on a desk rather than buried in an inbox. It is physical evidence of the thought you have invested in your message. Whether you are producing an annual report, a product catalogue, a training manual, or a programme for a local event, a professionally bound booklet communicates a level of seriousness that digital formats simply do not.

At PCR Print, we produce booklets in three binding formats — saddle-stitched, perfect-bound, and wire-bound — from our Lisburn print works. Orders from just 10 copies, with full control over cover stock, inner paper weight, and page count.

Saddle-stitched booklets

Saddle-stitching is the standard booklet format for page counts from 8 to 64 pages. The folded pages are stapled through the spine with wire staples — the same method used for most magazines and brochures. It produces a flat, neat booklet that lies open easily without creasing, and it is the most cost-effective binding method available. Saddle-stitched booklets are ideal for programmes, newsletters, small catalogues, training handouts, order-of-service booklets, and anything where the page count is in the manageable range. One constraint to be aware of: page count must always be a multiple of four, because each sheet folded in half creates four pages. If your content fills 18 pages, the booklet will be 20 pages with blank pages used as needed.

Perfect-bound booklets

Perfect binding uses a flat spine — the pages are gathered, the spine edge is trimmed and roughened, and a hot-glue wrap cover is applied. The result is a book-format publication that stands upright on a shelf, looks highly professional, and can accommodate much higher page counts than saddle-stitching (typically 36 pages minimum up to 300 or more). Perfect binding suits annual reports, product catalogues, company proposals, brand books, and anything that needs to look and feel like a serious publication. A key advantage: you can print the title and edition on the spine, which matters when the booklet will be stored on a shelf alongside other publications.

Wire-bound booklets

Wire (twin-loop) binding runs a metal wire loop through a series of punched holes along the binding edge. The booklet lies completely flat when open — or can fold back on itself — which makes it ideal for manuals, planners, workbooks, order forms, notepads, and reference guides that are used on a desk while the reader works. Wire binding also makes it easy to write in the booklet at any page without the spine resisting. Both A4 and A5 wire-bound formats are available, and the binding is available in silver or black wire depending on the finish required.

Cover options and paper stocks

The cover makes the first impression, and it deserves the same attention as the content. For saddle-stitched booklets, the cover is typically a heavier stock than the inner pages — a 300gsm or 350gsm cover with matt lamination gives a professional finish that also protects the edges. For perfect-bound booklets, the cover wraps around the spine and is the publication's primary brand asset; silk or gloss laminated 350gsm is standard. Inner pages are typically 130gsm (for cost-effective runs) or 170gsm (for premium publications where each page should feel substantial when turned). We can mix cover stock and inner page stock — contact us when ordering if you want to discuss options.
