Folded Leaflet & Brochure Printing for Northern Ireland

A folded leaflet gives you more surface area to tell your story without increasing the cost of paper or postage. The fold creates structure — a front cover, inner panels, and a back — that encourages the reader to open and explore rather than scan and discard.

We produce folded leaflets and brochures in several configurations at our Lisburn print works, on quality 130gsm and 170gsm stocks. They are popular with healthcare providers, solicitors, hospitality businesses, tourism organisations, and anyone whose message needs more than one panel to do it justice.

Folded leaflet buying guide

1

Half-fold leaflets (bi-fold)

Half-folding an A4 sheet gives you four A5-sized panels — front cover, two inner pages, and a back. It is the simplest fold and the most familiar format: it resembles a booklet, it feels substantial, and it is straightforward to design because each panel is a standard A5 size. Half-fold leaflets work well for service brochures, information guides, healthcare leaflets, and anything where you want the inside to function as a distinct spread — almost like a mini-magazine. The format lies flat, making it easy to display in racks or include with orders.

2

Tri-fold leaflets (roll fold)

Tri-folding an A4 sheet into three equal panels is the brochure format you encounter everywhere — from estate agents to holiday parks to insurance providers. It creates six panels: a front, four inner sections, and a back. Folded, it is roughly DL in size, meaning it fits neatly into a standard DL envelope and most display racks. This is the most popular folded format for service businesses, product brochures, and tourist information because the DL format is the accepted standard for promotional material. Each of the six panels functions as its own mini-page, which rewards careful planning in the design stage.

3

Z-fold leaflets (accordion fold)

The Z-fold opens differently from the roll fold: each panel folds in alternating directions, like the bellows of an accordion, so it expands into a long strip rather than a flat sheet. This makes every panel independently visible when the leaflet is fully open, which suits step-by-step content, product comparisons, timelines, and how-it-works guides particularly well. Z-fold leaflets also hold their shape when left on a surface because the alternating folds balance each other out. They are popular for promotional roadmaps, installation instructions, and sequence-driven communication.

4

Designing artwork for folded leaflets

Designing for a folded format requires more preparation than a flat flyer. Each panel must be treated as its own visual unit, and the fold lines must be carefully accounted for — content that runs across a fold line will be partially hidden in the crease. We provide free downloadable templates for all our folded formats on our Help page: each template includes bleed guides, safe area lines, and fold markers. Key rules: allow 3mm bleed on all outer edges, keep all content at least 3mm from trim lines and fold lines, use CMYK colour mode, and export images at 300 DPI at final print size.
