Large Format Poster Printing in Northern Ireland
A well-printed poster is one of the simplest and most effective pieces of visual communication available. Put one in a shop window, on a notice board, in a venue lobby, or at the end of an aisle, and it does its job without any further effort from you — as long as it looks right.
At PCR Print, we print posters from A3 up to A0 on premium 170gsm silk from our Lisburn press. The result is crisp detail, accurate colour, and a smooth surface that stands up to close inspection and long-distance visibility alike. Competitive pricing, fast turnaround, and free delivery to businesses across Northern Ireland.

Poster printing buying guide
Choosing the right poster size
Poster size should match the distance from which it will be viewed. A3 (420 × 297mm) is the notice board and shop counter size — it works well when read at arm's length and is affordable for quantity printing. A2 (594 × 420mm) is the standard wall display size, delivering more impact without overwhelming a small space. A1 (841 × 594mm) is the full window display size, effective from several metres away and widely used for retail, healthcare, and venue environments. A0 (1189 × 841mm) is the maximum size — exhibition walls, event backdrops, and large retail spaces. As a rule: if your poster is going in a shop window or needs to be seen from across a room, A1 is the practical minimum.
Paper stock and finish
170gsm silk is the ideal stock for visual display printing. The smooth surface renders fine detail and photographic content accurately, while being slightly less reflective than high-gloss — which means fewer distracting reflections from overhead lighting, an important consideration in retail and healthcare environments. The 170gsm weight gives the poster enough body to hang flat on a wall without curling and to feel substantial when mounted in a frame or snap frame. All our posters are single-sided, as they are designed for front-facing display.
Getting your resolution right
Resolution is more critical for posters than for any other print product because the physical size magnifies imperfections. For A3 posters viewed at close range, 300 DPI at the final print size is recommended. For A1 and A0, 150 DPI at actual size is the minimum — though 200 DPI or higher gives noticeably better results for photographic content. The most common mistake we see: sending an A4 image at 300 DPI and requesting A0 output. At A0 size, that image resolution drops to approximately 75 DPI, which will print visibly soft. Always create your artwork at the actual output size from the start.
Display and mounting options
We supply posters as flat printed sheets — mounting, framing, or installation is handled by the customer. For temporary display, blu-tack or adhesive poster strips work well on smooth surfaces. For semi-permanent display, clip frames and snap frames are widely available in A3 through A1 sizes and allow easy poster changes without damaging the print. If you need a display that will be reused frequently or handled by multiple people, consider ordering a foam board or correx version of your design, which provides rigidity and can stand alone without a frame.

Frequently asked questions
Our standard maximum is A0 (1189 × 841mm). For larger dimensions or very specific sizes, contact us and we will advise — we can sometimes produce larger prints via our large format printing service, which covers architectural and exhibition needs.
For A3 and A2 posters intended for close viewing, 300 DPI at final print size. For A1 and A0, 150 DPI minimum at actual size, though 200 DPI or higher is better for photographic content. Never scale a low-resolution image to fill a larger size — the softness will be visible in print.
Yes — silk paper and CMYK printing handle fine text well at all poster sizes. For very fine text below 6pt, ensure your PDF is exported with fonts embedded (not outlined at too small a size) and at 300 DPI. Our free artwork check will flag any potential text legibility issues before we print.
Most poster products are single-sided, as posters are designed for one-direction viewing. If you have a specific requirement for a double-sided display — such as a window-hung poster seen from both inside and outside a shop — contact us to discuss your requirements.
We protect all posters during dispatch — smaller sizes are typically packaged flat in rigid board-backed mailers, while larger formats (A1/A0) are rolled and packaged in protective tubes. Please do not fold or crease posters; if you need to store them, roll loosely.
